Nagerhole National Park, where the river runs wild, was once an exclusive hunting preserve of the Maharajas of Mysore. The park situated in the Deccan plateau forms an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The entire forest stretch is one of the finest remaining habitats of the Asiatic elephants; huge herds hang out and it is said that summer is the best time to see them.
Nagarhole spread over a luxurious 640 sq. km offers great sighting opportunities along the tracks as a 100 foot area around the either side has been cleared of vegetation allowing an unobstructed view of the forest and we can expect to see some herbivores like the elephant, gaur, sambar, cheetal, muntjac, chousingha, wild pig and is an excellent place to spot chole, leopard, sloth bear and tiger.
